Scarlet Flores Journal is an independent journal for women in midlife who live in, or love spending time in, San Antonio. We write about two things that tend to sit side by side at this stage of life: looking after yourself through the changes of perimenopause and menopause, and getting out of the house to enjoy the gardens, history and live nights the city has to offer.
What you will find here
- Midlife wellbeing in plain English. Our articles cover menopause basics, sleep, food, movement and the questions worth taking to an appointment. Everything is general information, and we always suggest you talk to your doctor about your own situation.
- Buying wisely. Wellness products are marketed hard at women in midlife. Our Buying Wisely section explains how to read labels, guarantees and free-trial offers with a critical eye.
- Gardens and walks. From the San Antonio Botanical Garden to the Japanese Tea Garden in Brackenridge Park, we share green places to slow down. Start with our garden walks guide.
- Nights and days out. Theater at the Majestic, concerts at the Tobin Center, and a stroll along the River Walk. See A Night Out in San Antonio.
What we are not
We are not a store, a brand or a clinic. We do not sell supplements, drinks or any other product, we do not endorse products or ingredients, and we are not affiliated with any company. We do not offer diagnosis or treatment. When a topic touches your health, the right next step is a conversation with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist, not a purchase.
How we work
Health pages draw on public sources such as the National Institutes of Health, womenshealth.gov and the FDA. Local pages rely on published histories of each venue and city information. We avoid quoting study results we cannot check, and we never invent testimonials, experts or statistics. If you spot an error, our contact page explains how to tell us, and our Questions page covers how corrections are handled.
Who it is for
Anyone navigating midlife, or supporting someone who is: partners, friends, daughters and colleagues included. You do not need an account to read anything here, and there is nothing to buy. Read what helps, share what is useful, and take the rest to the people who know your health best.
